Our top Emerald Isle rental home booking tips:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Reserve your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • First, have your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Home in the Perfect Location on Emerald Isle-Dog Friendly has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
