How to find the best rental home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. 3BR Duplex - Ocean Front - Coast Guard Rd. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
