Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose and book yourrental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Pelican's Roost 11, Oceanside Condo in Atlantic Beach, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
