Vacation rental tips:

Find your best deal:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose and book a perfectrental:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. OCEANSIDE CONDO WITH GREAT DECK VIEWS has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain New Bern destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Tips for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
