How to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a Emerald Isle rental home:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:

  • To start, have your group select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. SINGLE Family Ocean Front - Howard's Hideaway has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you crave, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
