Tips to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. NEW Listing - OFFSHORE BLUE - Sound Front Home 4 BR 2 Bath has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
