Tips to get the best Emerald Isle rental experience:
When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- To start, have your family select date ranges and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Spectacular views from this 2nd Row East side Duplex - New for 2025 Shared Pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
