Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- To book the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 3BR Cottage - short walk to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are crazy about, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
