How to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking the right New Bern rental home:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Steps to the beach! Hear the waves & feel the breeze! Your home away from home! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
