Our top New Bern rental home booking tips:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Summer Winds A-303, Oceanfront Condo in Indian Beach, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
