Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Pine Knoll Shores. To get the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightrental home:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Suncatcher, Almost Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
