Tips to get the best rental experience:

When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. 3-Bedroom condo in peaceful Emerald Isle with fitness room, indoor\/outdoor pools has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's an individual New Bern destination you crave, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
