How to book the best rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Choosing the best vacation home:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. The Exum Cottage - Beachfront in Atlantic Beach, NC has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
Tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
