Strategies to get the very best New Bern vacation property experience:

Finding the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the most suitable rental for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. BEAUTIFUL OCEANFRONT with gorgeous views! 2 king beds, 3 queen beds and 4 twins. has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
