Emerald Isle vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The ultimate OCEANFRONT bungalow close to everything has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
