Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your New Bern rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Papa Jim's Front Porch-Oceanview Condo, Community Pool, 2 min walk to Beach has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
