New Bern vacation rental tips and tricks:
Sticking to a budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Third-Floor Condo in Direct Oceanfront Building w\/Shared Pool, WiFi, & Balcony has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
