Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Townhome with 2 bedrooms plus loft sleeping area, perfect for your next vacation has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain New Bern attraction you simply love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
