- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
