Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the New Bern area:
- Start by having your group decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Water View of New Bern has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual New Bern beach you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
