Tips to get the best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the largest rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect New Bern rental:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Ocean view condo with pool access, central AC, WiFi, and private washer\/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Have a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
