Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the right New Bern vacation home:
- Start by having your group commit to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Walk to beach \/ Cozy 3-Bedroom \/Wrap-around deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
