Tricks and tips to get the optimal New Bern rental home experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your New Bern vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
