Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking a perfectvacation home:

  • First, have your family decide on vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Atlantic Beach - A Place at the Beach, Pool View- 1st Floor, Beachfont Complex has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
