Getting the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Emerald Cottage - renovated 1950s beach cottage one block to beach , hot tub has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
