Our top New Bern rental property booking tips and tricks:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Pet Friendly Oceanside Duplex-Barefoot East has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
