How to book the best rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To book the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by having your family choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Sunny Side, Soundside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
During your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
