Strategies to get the optimal New Bern vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the best rental home:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Sunny Side, Soundside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.

- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
