Getting the best New Bern rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful and private Oceanfront Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific New Bern destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
