Strategies to get the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • First and foremost, have your group select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Panoramic oceanfront views of golden sand and crashing waves has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular New Bern attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
