Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • To find the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing your prefect New Bern rental:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Lighthouse Cottage DOG FRIENDLY -Historic District has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
