Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Booking in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Blue Whale, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
