How to book the best New Bern rental experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Boat Dock! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
