How to find the best Emerald Isle vacation rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. 4BR Ocean Front Duplex - off Coast Guard Rd! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
