Our top Emerald Isle vacation rental booking tips:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Cute 2-bedroom home in Emerald Isle w\/ free beach parking, golf cart included. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
