Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the largest rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dock of the Bay - Soundfront House, 3BR, 2BA, Atlantic Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
