Emerald Isle rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Exclusive Dolphin Ridge \"ISLAND TIME\" with private pool and golf cart has 3 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
