Tricks and tips for getting the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Hear and See the Sound of the Sea has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Have a wonderful stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
