Getting the best rental home experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:

  • To book the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Hear and See the Sound of the Sea has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific New Bern destination you simply love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
