Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Beaufort vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing the right New Bern vacation home:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Magnificent 15 Acre Estate on the Intracoastal Waterway has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
