Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Pine Knoll Shores. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Multi-level, oceanfront condo with WiFi, W\/D, & community pool\/tennis courts has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's an individual New Bern attraction you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
