Finding the best rental home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 10% OFF 2025 - First Floor Easy Beach access - Ocean Front Resort\n2 Bed 2 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
