Tips for getting the best vacation property experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Emerald Isle rental home:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking a perfect New Bern rental:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Newly remodeled &100 steps to the beach access. Very clean and close to beach. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a specific New Bern destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
