Tricks and tips to get the perfect Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the best vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Ocean Reef 4-B2, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
