Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, change your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanview, poolside, 2BR\/2B condo sleeps 6 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
