How to book the best vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Quiet, Top-Floor, Ocean & Sound view Condo w\/ Beach Access, Pool, WiFi & more! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
