Tips to get the very best New Bern vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, change your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the best rental:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Our Getaway Two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
