Tricks and tips to get the optimal New Bern rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Book your rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Spacious 1BR 1BA with Full Kitchen and Living Room - 3 min walk to the beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
