Rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect New Bern rental home:
- To start, have your group select the best dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Spacious Loft on Middle Lane in Historic Downtown Beaufort has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
