Strategies to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book yourrental:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Panoramic Ocean and Sound Views Fantasea Cottage on Emerald Isle has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If not, call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
