Getting the best New Bern rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To find the best rental for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and choose the rightrental:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pebble Beach A-304, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
