Our top New Bern vacation rental tips:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, change your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and choosing your New Bern rental home:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Coral Shores #4-Ocean Front Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual New Bern attraction you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
