Getting the best vacation property experience:
Find your best deal:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to select the perfect rental home in Emerald Isle:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Prime Location 2nd row!!! Beautiful beach views from the deck!! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
