Getting the best rental home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Summer time is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose and book the best New Bern rental:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Prime Location 2nd row!!! Beautiful beach views from the deck!! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
